Epoxy.com Product #888

Epoxy Primer

This material has been replaced by Epoxy.com Product #231

DESCRIPTION

Epoxy.com Product #888 is a two-component, epoxy resin based concrete, metal, and wood primer for use with a wide variety of Epoxy.com Elastomeric systems. The primer may also be used with other polyurethane and Epoxy.com, including joint sealants.

Composition

Modified Bisphenol A-Epichlorohydrin epoxy resin cured with an Amine hardener to set up to a durable tough film when used on wood, metal or concrete, including damp or green.

Basic Uses

Epoxy.com Product #888 Primer is specially formulated as a primer for polyurethane coatings that are to be put down under conditions which would normally be considered adverse for application. On green concrete (concrete that is more than 8 days, but less than 28 days old), concrete floors poured in metal pans, or where the surrounding water table might cause a damp condition, Product #888 will set up to form a sound surface for polyurethanes and epoxies to bond to. Epoxy.com Product #888 also has excellent adhesion to metal and wood surfaces.

INSTALLATION

All surfaces which are to be coated with Epoxy.com Product #888 PRIMER must be free of contamination such as curing compounds, concrete hardeners, bond breakers, paint, etc. Water-curing concrete is recommended instead of using concrete curing compounds. All surfaces must be clean and sound, but may be damp. Sandblasting is recommended when possible, otherwise acid etching or wirebrushing may be sufficient.

Coverage: 250 sq. ft. per gallon on rough surfaces. Up to 350 sq.ft. per gallon on smooth surfaces.

For best results, the surface that has been coated with Epoxy.com PRODUCT #888 should be coated over within 8 hours. If for some reason the primer is allowed to totally cure to a hard glass-like finish, the surface should be reprimed with another coat of PRODUCT #888 before coating over with a polyurethane. However, if the surface is very porous, recoating of the primer may not be required. PRODUCT #888may be applied by brush, roller or spray.

Clean Up: Because of the difficulty in cleaning up or removing cured Product #888, equipment and tools should be cleaned immediately after use, with xylene or M.E.K. If cleaning operations are performed in areas where safety regulations do not allow the use of flammable solvents, 1,1,1, Trichloroethylene may be used. Use only water-based hand cleaners for skin clean up.
